Up to the moment notifications about favourite teams and players make sure the user, or the 'fan' in our case, never misses a thing.
From the biggest news stories to the most minuscule of stats, it's up to the fan to decide how detailed their notifications are.
theScore covers the most popular leagues such as the NFL and NBA, to lesser known leagues like European Tour golf and Liga MX (Mexico’s top soccer league).
It's important to cater to a wide range of fans as theScore's user base is global and has vastly different interests.
As one of the cornerstones of the app, we put a significant amount of effort into the match screens.
The goal is to supply the fan with everything they need to know about the game without actually having to watch it. With in-depth stats to line-ups visualizations to league standings to key storylines, each broken out into it's own individual tab, match screens capture every moment of the game that fans know they can count on.
We replaced our old, clunky side drawer with a bottom tab bar, allowing fans a better surface to navigate across top-level sections in a single tap.
We wanted to keep fans engaged and able to talk about the game with other fans. As a relatively new feature, we set a quality baseline of usability and readability in order to be able to build on this in the future.
And of course, some friendly banter is always encouraged.
theScore is consistently one of the App Store's top-rated apps in the Sports category. With almost a cult-like following, especially in Canada where many fans grew up watching theScore television network, it's certainly a fan favourite and deservingly so.
